4494UR: 6-Acetylmorphine (6-AM) Urine AccuQuant® Print View
6-Acetylmorphine Urine     ng/mL

PRIMARY
1 Urine 10 (5) mL   Frozen - 30 Day(s)/Refrigerated - 14 Day(s)/Room Temperature - 7 Day(s)
ALTERNATE

6-Acetylmorphine (6-AM) is a metabolite of heroin. Heroin itself is not active, but it is rapidly converted (t1/2 <6 min) to 6-acetylmorphine and further to morphine (t1/2 <40 min). Both 6-AM and morphine have euphoric effects. 6-AM is rapidly eliminated and excreted into the urine and the "detection window" is <24 hrs. Therefore, 6-AM negative urine does not exclude heroin abuse, but its presence confirms it.

Preferred Specimen: 10 mL unpreserved Urine submitted in a plastic,
leakproof container.

Reject Criteria: Preservatives or additives
