This manual is for obstetrician-gynecologists and other health care
providers (e.g.: nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, family physicians,
etc). This manual was developed by ACOG, American College of Medical
Genetics and NIH ad hoc steering committee, and work groups on Provider
Education, Laboratory Standards, and Patient Education. This manual
was developed following the 1997 NIH Workshop on Implementation
of CF Screening to develop guidance on NIH's new CF recommendations
made in 1997. This manual offers guidance for providers on timing
of CF carrier screening, screening strategies and process, laboratory
testing for carrier screening, and counseling for screening.
